Vice President Lombardi offers condolences on the death of Allen Hyunwoo Park ’23

May 27, 2021

It is with deep sadness that I share the news that Allen Hyunwoo Park ’23, a sophomore from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, died last evening as a result of injuries he sustained at his apartment complex.

A student in the College of Arts and Sciences, Allen had not yet declared a major. He attended the Horace Mann School in the Bronx and held a high school internship studying urban soil with the Central Park Conservancy. He hoped to explore how technology can be used in soil science research. During high school, he was involved in soccer, swimming, writing and mentoring others. At Cornell, Allen was a member of the Engineering Career Fair Team and worked on the spring career fair.

On behalf of Cornell, I extend my deepest sympathies to Allen’s family, including his sister and grandfather, who are both Cornellians, as well as his friends and teachers. Please join me in keeping them all in your thoughts during this difficult time.

I encourage anyone who may be in need of assistance to seek support. In addition to the resources listed at the close of this message, a community support meeting open to all members of the Cornell community will be held tomorrow, Friday, May 28 at 3 p.m. (details below).

Sincerely,

Ryan Lombardi
Vice President for Student and Campus Life
