Message of condolence on the death of undergraduate Oluchukwu Chinedu Onuora

January 24, 2015

I am deeply saddened to tell you of a tragic loss to our community. Oluchukwu Onuora, a 23-year-old senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, died this morning at Cayuga Medical Center due to injuries sustained after being struck by a car.

Oluchukwu was a member of the Class of 2015. He came to Cornell in fall 2012 after attending Morgan Community College in Fort Morgan, Colorado. His advisor, Professor Andrew Novakovic, describes Oluchukwu as a global citizen. He was born in Nigeria and came to the United States as a young child. His hometown is West Harrison, New York. Plans for a commemoration of his life will be made in the coming days.

On behalf of the entire Cornell community, I extend our heartfelt sympathy to Oluchukwu’s family and friends. Please join me in remembering Oluchukwu and acknowledging what is truly a sad day for our community.

Sincerely,

Susan H. Murphy
