New York State Police confirmed today that the woman whose body was found in an Ithaca park June 3 was Caroline Coffey, a researcher in biomedical engineering at Cornell University. Troopers also confirmed that Coffey’s husband, Blazej Kot, a graduate student in information science at Cornell, was hospitalized after a short car chase with area police the night of June 2. Kot is listed in stable condition. An investigation is underway.
Tommy Bruce, vice president for University Communications, issued the following statement:
“We are shocked and profoundly saddened by the news of this tragedy. We offer our support and condolences to friends, colleagues, and family members of Caroline Coffey and Blazej Kot. “Counseling and support are available to all members of the Cornell community. For Cornell United Religious Work (CURW). call 255-4214. There is also a 24-hour community crisis hotline run by the Advocacy Center at 277-5000.”
